Naomi Osaka Loses to No. 1 Sabalenka, Updated French Open Women's Bracket, Roland-Garros Results
Naomi Osaka's march toward her first career French Open title came to an end on Monday.
Osaka, the No. 16 seed, lost to No. 1-ranked Aryna Sabalenka in the fourth round at Roland-Garros in straight sets by scores of 7-5, 6-3. Sabalenka will face No. 25 Diana Shnaider in the French Open quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Osaka opened the first set with a 2-0 lead before Sabalenka battled back. After facing a 5-4 deficit, Sabalenka refused to go down and earned a crucial break point on her way to winning the set 7-5.
Osaka did her best to keep up in the second set, and she took a 3-2 lead after staving off a break following a marathon point. However, Sabalenka quickly recovered and began pulling away, earning a break for a 4-3 lead before closing things out with another break for match point.
This marked just the fourth head-to-head meeting between Osaka and Sabalenka, with Sabalenka winning the most recent meetings at Indian Wells and the Madrid Open earlier this year.
The 2026 French Open has already seen a slew of upsets, as there are no previous French Open winners still active on the men's or women's side. 2025 women's champion Coco Gauff fell to Anastasia Potapova in the third round.
Sabalenka is the clear favorite to win it all at Roland-Garros this year, and she will try to keep the momentum going in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
