After Myles Garrett-Jared Verse Trade, Updated Rams & Browns Depth Charts, Draft Picks & Salary Caps

Doric SamJun 1, 2026

The Cleveland Browns reportedly pulled off the most shocking move of the offseason.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Browns are finalizing a trade that will send two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for edge rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a 2029 third-round pick.

Following the deal, the Browns and Rams' depth charts now look like this:

Must-See NFL Offseason Moves ✍️

  • Browns DE: Jared Verse, Alex Wright, Julian Okwara, Isaiah McGuire, Logan Fano, Khordae Sydnor
  • Rams DE: Myles Garrett, Kobie Turner, Braden Fiske, Larrell Murchison, Tyler Davis

The Rams will be adding Garrett's $23.5 million cap hit for the 2026 season, reducing their $27.4 million in salary cap space. Los Angeles won't have a first-round pick in 2027, and the team could be saying goodbye to more picks.

The Browns will now own two first-round picks in a talent-rich 2027 draft, plus additional premium selections in 2028 and 2029. Cleveland entered Monday with $18.8 million in salary cap space and should have no problems taking on Verse's rookie contract, which will pay him $4.1 million in 2026.

The Rams made a concerted effort to revamp their defense this offseason, and acquiring Garrett completes that mission. Los Angeles also traded for star cornerback Trent McDuffie from the Kansas City Chiefs and signed his fellow former Chiefs cornerback Jaylen Watson. After advancing to the NFC Championship Game last season, it's clear that the Rams are hoping to contend for a Super Bowl title in 2026.

As for the Browns, ESPN's Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Adam Schefter explained that they feel the deal provides multiple benefits.

"The Browns are expected to get what they believe is long-term value, significant draft pick compensation to go along with Verse -- a younger, cheaper player who is not eligible for a contract extension until after this season," Rapoport, Pelissero and Schefter stated. "The Browns privately have calculated that this trade is likely to save them $30 million in cash, though they are fully prepared to pay Verse when the time is right."

Cleveland is entering a new era under first-year head coach Todd Monken, and it seems like the team is willing to do whatever it takes to rebuild the right way. Trading Garrett will go down as one of the most pivotal changes for the franchise, and the Browns will have to prove that they made the right decision.
