
Coco Gauff Reacts to Roland-Garros Upset After Loss vs. Anastasia Potapova in 3rd Round
No. 4 seed Coco Gauff, the defending champion at Roland-Garros, fell in the third round of the tournament on Saturday to No. 28 seed Anastasia Potapova in three sets: 4-6, 7-6 (1) and 6-4.
Gauff spoke about her performance afterward and said she simply fell short a bit during some crucial moments in the match.

Gauff won the first set but found herself down 5-2 in the second with Potapova serving. However, Gauff won the next four games to go up 6-5. Potapova rallied back, though, holding serve to force a tiebreaker.
Gauff had a great chance to win the match at that point, but Potapova dominated the tiebreaker, winning the first five points en route to the 7-1 victory.
Gauff earned an important edge in the third set, going up 3-1 after an early break. She had the serve with a chance to go up 4-2, but Potapova dominated, going up 40-0 and then winning the decisive point to break back.
However, Gauff wasn't done yet, earning two break points in the next game. Gauff couldn't convert either, though, and Potapova held serve.
Down 5-4 in the third set, Gauff was up 3-0, but Potapova fought back and won the next four points for the match victory.
It was a tough loss for Gauff, undoubtedly, and the opportunities were there. However, Potapova fared well in her own right to earn the win.
