Kenyon Sadiq Injured, Latest on Jets Rookie TE's Timeline to Return from Hernia Surgery

Julia StumbaughMay 28, 2026

New York Jets rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq underwent a "minor procedure" to treat a hernia, coach Aaron Glenn told reporters Thursday.

Glenn said Sadiq would be ready to return for training camp in July.

Glenn said the procedure addressed an issue Sadiq had known about heading into his final college season at Oregon.

Sadiq also dealt with the issue during the Jets' rookie minicamp, which took place from May 8-10, Glenn said.

"We wanted to make sure we get it done right after rookie minicamp, so he'll be ready to go during training camp," Glenn said.

The Jets are in the middle of OTAs, which lead up to mandatory minicamp from June 16-18 followed by training camp in July.

Sadiq was selected by the Jets with the No. 16 pick of the 2026 NFL draft. He signed his four-year, $22.3 million rookie contract earlier this month.

Jets general manager Darren Mougey said in April the Jets "spent a lot of time" studying Sadiq before selecting him in the first round of the draft.

He also said Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich had "a great vision" as to how to use Sadiq, who at time functioned like a wide receiver during his two seasons as a starter at Oregon.

After running one of the fastest 40-yard dashes by a tight end in the history of the NFL scouting combine, Sadiq could add some speed to a pass-catching depth chart led by Garrett Wilson, Adonai Mitchell and Omar Cooper Jr.

It looks like Glenn and Reich will have to wait until July to see how exactly Sadiq fits into the scheme the team is building around quarterback Geno Smith.

Second-year tight end Mason Taylor could see more reps with the first-team offense as OTAs continue with Sadiq on the sideline. Taylor ranked second only to Wilson for the receiving yards lead last season, during which he recorded 369 receiving yards on 44 catches in 13 games.
