On Thursday, Juan Manuel Cerundolo stunned No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner in five sets.

Sinner, seeking his first career Grand Slam and 31st straight win, stood one game away from closing the match in straight sets.

However, the 24-year-old Italian began to experience cramping in his right quad and was never able to recover.

The movement, power, and precision that had made him nearly unbeatable were nowhere to be found.

Sinner entered as the second-largest favorite to win the French Open since 1990.

Hours later, another top seed fell as Raphael Collignon defeated No. 5 seed Ben Shelton in straight sets.

Collignon committed just 13 unforced errors and was dominant on first serve, winning 44 of 50 points.

Novak Djokovic is the only former Grand Slam champion left in the draw after Jannik Sinner's stunning second-round loss.

The 39-year-old Serbian will never have a greater chance to win a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title.

But he must not overlook his third-round opponent, Joao Fonseca.

The 19-year-old Brazilian sensation, born a month after Djokovic won his first ATP Tour title, has boundless potential with his blistering serve, booming forehand, and top-tier athleticism.

If he can dictate pace early and force Djokovic to play his style of physically grueling tennis, the match is his to win.

That being said, Fonseca has lost six straight matches against top-10 ranked players, and Djokovic's experience and mentality could be the difference here.

Fonseca must play without nerves, but even that may not be enough against Djokovic, who will certainly have some extra motivation.

The two-time Grand Slam champion needed 59 minutes to win the opening set, hitting three doubles faults and committing 17 unforced errors.

The No. 4 seed found her signature baseline tennis in the second set, however, and faced few troubles.

Aryna Sabalenka also got off to a slow start before defeating Elsa Jacquemot in straight sets.

Sabalenka committed an uncharacteristic 20 unforced errors in the opening set but was able to escape late.

In the second set, the four-time major champion found her return game and continued to apply pressure as Jacquemot's form took a massive dip.
