New Details on Naomi Osaka's Outfit at Roland-Garros Following Trending Photos, Videos
Naomi Osaka turned heads again at Roland-Garros with her fashion choice for her second-round match against Donna Vekic on Thursday.
"The tennis star wore a metallic gold bomber jacket over her sequined gold playing dress, offset by an ivory train in a look that mixes sportswear with couture," Andrew Dampf of the Associated Press wrote.
"I like to keep people on their toes and I think it's really fun," Osaka said in her post-match interview on court. "There's a community I feel like that's been built over my on-court outfits. So I just like to just keep you guys guessing."
This outfit choice came after she wore a black skirt and gold dress for her first-round win over Laura Siegemund.
Osaka said it reminded her of the Eiffel Tower sparkling at night:
However, Siegemund wasn't pleased with the situation and said Osaka getting longer to get ready because of her outfits was "yet another example of big names being treated differently" in tennis.
"I came here to play tennis, not to put on a fashion show," Siegemund said after her loss. "If other people want to do a fashion show, they can do that. It's fine for me."
Osaka has had no trouble with the playing tennis part at Roland-Garros with two straight-sets victories. She dispatched of Siegemund, 6-3, 7-6(3) and continued that momentum Thursday with a 7-6(1), 6-4 win over Vekic.
After going back and forth in the first set, Osaka seized control in a dominant performance in the tiebreak. Vekic bounced back some in the second set that was on serve at 4-4, but a late break cleared the way for Osaka to put the finishing touches on the victory.
She will now face American Iva Jovic in the third round after Jovic won each of her first two matches in straight sets as well.
