Anthony Richardson Speaks on Trade Request and Impact on Colts Teammates in New Video
Indianapolis Colts backup quarterback Anthony Richardson hasn't rescinded the trade request he made in February, but while he remains with the organization he's focusing his attention on improvement and being a good teammate.
"I signed a contract. I'm still on this team regardless, before the trade stuff," he told reporters Wednesday. "I've got an obligation to this team to come out here and play and perform, be ready to play if they need me. I don't think it's weird or awkward. ... I'm not really focused on [getting traded] right now. I'm just trying to make sure I'm getting healthy, keeping everything up there in the mind sharp."

Roster Moves That Need to Happen ‼️
Richardson, 24, was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft and was expected to be the face of the franchise for years to come. But over three seasons he's thrown for just 2,400 yards, 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 17 games (15 starts), completing 50.6 percent of his passes.
He has been a dynamic runner, with 634 yards on the ground and 10 touchdowns. But his borderline reckless running style has led to injuries, keeping him off the field for long periods.
Ahead of the 2025 campaign the Colts signed Daniel Jones to a one-year deal, setting up a quarterback competition. Jones won out and had a strong enough season (3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns, eight interception, 68.0 completion percentage, 8-5 record as the starter) that the organization signed him to a two-year, $88 million extension in March.
With the writing on the wall, Richardson requested a trade in February and the Colts granted him permission to seek one out. The Colts have 2025 draft pick Riley Leonard available as the likely backup to Jones, so Richardson's best bet to further his football career would be switching teams.
But for now, he's committed to the Colts in whatever capacity they may need him.
