Patrick Mahomes Reportedly Takes Part in Chiefs OTAs, Latest Updates and Timeline amid Injury Return
Patrick Mahomes is seemingly recovering well from the torn ACL and LCL he suffered in December.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback returned to the field for OTAs on Tuesday and "did participate in some form or fashion," according to ESPN's Nate Taylor.

The extent of Mahomes' participation in OTAs is unclear, but head coach Andy ReidĀ told reportersĀ earlier this month that the former MVP was trending towards being "able to do some things.
"If he can do some things, [he'll do it]. Phase 2 [of the offseason program], remember, there's no contact and there's no offense versus defense," Reid said. "It's Phase 3 that you get into that. ... He's in a position where he can do everything, I think."
Reid alsoĀ saidĀ onĀ The Rich Eisen ShowĀ earlier this month that Mahomes is "getting better every day" and is "not taking any setbacks." Reid didn't confirm that Mahomes would be ready to go for Week 1, but he at least left the door open.
"It's a day-to-day thing, and as long as he keeps making progress forward, maybe we'll have a chance to see him in the first game. But we'll play that as we go," Reid said.
The recovery time for Mahomes' injury is typically around nine months, which would have him back on the field by September. HeĀ told reportersĀ a month after having surgery that Week 1 was the goal.
Chiefs general manager Brett Veach also toldĀ SiriusXM NFL RadioĀ earlier in May that Mahomes is "way ahead of schedule," another good indication that Kansas City could avoid playing any games without its star quarterback.
Just how well Mahomes has progressed will likely be more evident as the week goes on, but most of the signs have been positive thus far.
The Chiefs struggled in 2025, but Mahomes still managed to put together a solid season with 3,587 yards, 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 14 games. Kansas City is looking to get back to its Super Bowl-contending ways in 2026, and having Mahomes on the field for Week 1 would be a good start.
