Thibaut Courtois Receives Red Card vs. Swansea City: Latest Details and Reaction
Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois had a nightmare start to the 2015-16 Premier League season, as he was sent off for a foul on Swansea City's Bafetimbi Gomis.
Simon Peach of the Press Association reported the red card has resulted in a suspension against Manchester City as the FA rejected Chelsea's appeal on Tuesday.
Defending a 2-1 lead, the Blues defence lost track of Gomis, who tried to round Courtois on the edge of the box. The Belgium international caught the striker on the thigh and was given a straight red card for his troubles. Asmir Begovic made his official Chelsea debut as a result and immediately conceded his first goal.

There was some controversy regarding the decision to award the penalty, as fans wondered whether or not the foul was committed in the box―Bleacher Report UK changed their minds after seeing the replay. Sky Sports Football shared these images:
While the location of the foul is debatable, the red card is not. Gomis was through on goal and denied a clear goalscoring opportunity, despite the presence of Gary Cahill.
As one might expect, plenty of fans and pundits immediately made the connection to Petr Cech, who provided Chelsea with arguably the best backup stopper in the world last season before moving to rivals Arsenal. Football Funnys joined in on the fun:

Courtois' suspension against Manchester City on Matchday 2 of the Premier League season takes away from a highly anticipated matchup as the Blues will have to find a way to stymie City's attack without its starting keeper.
