Chris Taylor Changes Mind, Decides Against MLB Retirement 1 Day After Announcing Decision

Former MLB utility player Chris Taylor, who announced his retirement on Friday, has changed course and will remain active, per Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.

Taylor was playing this season for the Salt Lake Bees, the Los Angeles Angels' Triple-A affiliate. He hit .255 (.702 OPS) with 15 RBI in 32 games.

Taylor played in MLB from 2014-2025. He's best known for his 10 seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers and won a pair of World Series with the team in 2020 and 2024.

He was a versatile chess piece for the Dodgers, spending time at second base, shortstop, left field, center field, third base and right field.

Over his career, Taylor hit .248 (.746 OPS) with 110 home runs and 443 RBI. His best season was 2021, when Taylor made the All-Star Game and hit .254 (.782 OPS) with 20 homers and 73 RBI. Taylor starred in the playoffs that season, hitting .351 (1.202 OPS) with four home runs and 12 RBI. He also hit a walkoff home run in the NL Wild Card game against the St. Louis Cardinals to send the Dodgers to the National League Division Series.

L.A. released Taylor in May 2025, and he signed with the Angels for the rest of the 2025 season. He re-signed with the Angels for the 2026 campaign but did not make the team. However, he landed with the Triple-A club in hopes of landing back in the bigs.

It appeared Taylor's comeback effort would end after the retirement news, but he apparently wants to keep going and attempt to extend an impressive MLB career.
