Semifinal Highlights

(1) Georgia Tech 9, (5) Miami FL 3

Georgia Tech scored early and often on Saturday en route to eliminating Miami and punching its own ticket to the ACC Championship Game.

The Yellow Jackets jumped all over the Hurricanes, scoring two runs in the first, third and fourth innings, and building a 7-0 lead by the time Miami finally scored in the sixth.

GT's first six runs all came via home runs, as catcher Vahn Lackey hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first, while third baseman Ryan Zuckerman hit a pair of two-run shots in the fourth and fifth:

The second of Zuckerman's two home runs was a historic one, as it set Georgia Tech's new single-season record for team homers in a season with 123:

Zuckerman went 4-for-5 overall on the day, while Georgia Tech's leadoff man in shortstop Carson Kerce had three hits of his own, and Lackey scored three runs.

Jackson Blakely got the win for GT on the mound, going 5.2 innings and allowing seven hits, one walk and two earned runs, while striking out three.

Catcher Alonzo Alvarez and designated hitter Dylan Dubovik each had multi-hit games with three and two, respectively, but it wasn't enough to keep Miami in the game.

Hurricanes starting pitcher AJ Ciscar had no answers for the Yellow Jackets' stacked lineup, allowing seven hits, two walks and five earned runs over 3.2 innings.

(2) North Carolina 13, (14) Pittsburgh 5

The Pittsburgh Panthers' Cinderella run in the ACC baseball tournament came to an end Saturday, as they ran into an offensive juggernaut in No. 2 North Carolina.

By virtue of a 13-5 victory, the Tar Heels ensured an ACC title game that will feature the top two seeds in the tourney.

Pitt got off to a hot start Saturday and seemed poised for yet another upset, as second baseman Trey Fenderson and first baseman Carter Dierdorf came through with a pair of RBI singles in the top of the first inning:

However, North Carolina quickly erased Pittsburgh's lead on the strength of a two-run home run by second baseman Gavin Gallaher and an RBI single by third baseman Cooper Nicholson in the bottom of the first:

UNC added another three runs in the bottom of the second thanks in part to a two-run homer by right fielder Rom Kellis V, and the Tar Heels were off to the races from there:

The North Carolina hit parade continued in the ensuing innings, highlighted by Kellis' second home run of the game in the sixth, as his three-run shot extended the Tar Heels' lead to 12-4:

All told, the Tar Heels mashed 22 hits in the game, and eight different players finished the game with multiple hits for UNC.

The leadoff man in shortstop Jake Schaffner had a team-high four hits in six at-bats, but the offensive MVP was undoubtedly Kellis, who went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI.

North Carolina will need to keep the bats hot on Sunday when it clashes with top-seeded Georgia Tech in what could prove to be a slug fest.
