New Seahawks Rumors on Devon Witherspoon Contract and Timeline for Deal After Super Bowl Win

Julia StumbaughMay 23, 2026

The Seattle Seahawks and cornerback Devon Witherspoon reportedly remain far apart on extension talks with just over two weeks to go until the start of mandatory June minicamp.

ESPN's Brady Henderson reported Saturday the Seahawks "made an initial offer several weeks ago, according to a league source, but the two sides do not yet appear to be close to an agreement."

Henderson also reported that the Seahawks often don't finalize veteran extensions until training camp, which doesn't start until late July.

Witherspoon is already under contract through 2027 thanks to the final guaranteed season and fifth-year team option on his rookie contract.

He is one of two members of the 2023 draft class who could reset the cornerback market with their next deal alongside the New England Patriots' Christian Gonzalez, who is also reportedly in contract talks this offseason.

Both Witherspoon and Gonzalez are represented by WIN Sports Group, Henderson noted. According to Henderson, "some in league circles have wondered if the relatively slow pace could be related" to their shared representation.

Witherspoon has earned Pro Bowl nods in all three of his seasons with the Seahawks. He most recently recorded one sack, 17 tackles, one tackle for loss, three quarterback hits and four passes defensed in three playoff games on the Seahawks' way to victory in Super Bowl LX.

The Los Angeles Rams' Trent McDuffie currently leads all cornerbacks with an annual average salary of $31 million, per Over the Cap. Both Witherspoon and Gonzalez could potentially surpass that on their next deal.

Whether the Seahawks or Rams are first to finalizing an extension could potentially impact what the other star cornerback's contract ultimately looks like.
