Watch Caitlin Clark Learn She Got a Technical Foul, 'Fines Coming My Way' After Heated Altercation

Adam WellsMay 23, 2026

In the aftermath of the Indiana Fever's comeback win over the Golden State Valkyries on Friday night, Caitlin Clark was surprised to learn she was assessed a technical foul at one point during the game.

Clark learned the news when a reporter mentioned it in the postgame press conference (starts at :40 mark), prompting her to criticize the officials before saying "I guess I have some fines coming my way."

Clark and Valkyries forward Janelle Salaün were assessed double-technicals after getting into a heated confrontation on the court at the end of the first half.

The incident happened after Salaün appeared to give Clark a little shove in the back as the Fever star's momentum carried her toward the basket after a pass to Lexie Hull. Salaün grabbed the rebound off the miss, with Clark hacking toward the ball.

Both players got into a heated verbal discussion, prompting players from both teams to intervene before things went any further.

Clark is correct that she has fines coming her way. The WNBA announced prior to the start of the season a slight increase in the amount a player will be fined for technical fouls, flagrant fouls and flopping.

A player will be docked $500 for each of their first three technical fouls, then it goes up to $1,000 between four through seven and $1,500 for each technical foul starting with the eighth one.

Clark received her first technical foul of the season during a May 13 game against the Los Angeles Sparks. She could also receive additional penalties for her not-so-subtle digs at the refs, specifically her comment that they did an "interesting" job on Friday night.

Despite the technical foul and apparent unhappiness with the officiating, Clark played well otherwise with 22 points and nine assists in 32 minutes.

The Fever have won three straight after dropping two of their first three games to open the season.
