New NFL Rumors Reveal Jacoby Brissett, Cardinals 'Significantly' Far Apart in Contract Talks

Paul KasabianMay 22, 2026

Quarterback Jacoby Brissett and the Arizona Cardinals are "significantly" far apart on a new contract, per ESPN's Josh Weinfuss, who provided more information.

"Brissett has not attended any of the Cardinals voluntary OTAs or the voluntary offseason program as he waits for a new contract for this year, the second of a two-year deal he signed in March 2025. His deal currently pays him $4.88 million, with the potential to grow to $5.39 million, of which just $1.5 million is guaranteed. By comparison, Gardner Minshew II, whom Arizona signed as a free agent in March, had $5.14 million guaranteed by the team for 2026."

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler also added insight:

Brissett signed a two-year, $12.5 million contract last year to be Kyler Murray's backup. However, Murray suffered a mid-foot sprain in Week 5, and Brissett took over for the rest of the season, throwing for 3,366 yards and 23 touchdowns (eight interceptions) in 12 starts.

It's easy to see why Brissett wants a new deal. Simply put, he signed as a QB2, and now he's the clear QB1 going into the 2026 season. Brissett was also productive and helped keep the offense humming despite a rough 3-14 season for the team overall.

Chris Simms of NBC Sports believes Brissett should "hold his damn ground" for a better deal.

Looking past 2026, Arizona has plenty of questions moving forward as a rebuilding team with no clear long-term answer at quarterback. It very well could be Miami signal-caller Carson Beck, who Arizona selected in the third round of the 2026 NFL draft.

However, the 2027 NFL draft, on paper, looks rich with high-end quarterback prospects, including Texas' Arch Manning, Oregon's Dante Moore and Notre Dame's CJ Carr.

In the meantime, the Cardinals and Brissett are in a standoff. The real date to watch is June 8, which marks the beginning of mandatory minicamp. We'll see if something comes to fruition by then, but if not, it'll be interesting to see if Brissett is present for practice.
