Thusday Highlights

Finland 7, Latvia 1

Latvia struck first Thursday as Rudolfs Balcers scored just 10 seconds after puck drop.

That lead lasted just five minutes before Hannas Bjorninen tied the game with the first of seven straight goals for Finland.

Finland finished the game having outshot Latvia 37-15 in a blowout that brought the undefeated Finns closer to Switzerland in the race for the top seed in Group A.

Seven different Finnish players recorded a goal in the victory, while Mikko Lehtonen led with three assists.

Canada 6, Norway 5 (OT)

Canada fell behind early after Norway forced a defensive-zone turnover five minutes into Thursday's first period.

Norway pulled out to a 2-0 lead six minutes later with a goal from Johannes Johannesen.

Scheifele erased that lead in a span of six minutes with back-to-back goals late in the first.

Regulation was capped off by a wild third period in which Dylan Cozens scored a shorthanded goal and Norway took back the lead by scoring twice in two minutes.

Ryan O'Reilly tipped in a Macklin Celebrini shot to tie the game with under two minutes left in regulation.

Scheifele then sealed Canada's win and completed his hat trick by scoring 29 minutes into the extra frame.

The victory allowed Canada to jump past Czechia for the top spot in Group B.

Switzerland 4, Great Britain 1

Switzerland's Nino Niederreiter opened scoring in the first period after getting behind Great Britain's defense.

Nico Hischier and Simon Knak added tallies early in the second frame to help Switzerland out to a three-goal lead.

Josh Waller got Great Britain on the board later in the period, but Niederreiter closed out Switzerland's win with his second goal of the day early in the third.

Switzerland finished the game leading 41-13 in shots. Seven Swiss players recorded points, while British goaltender Mat Robson made 37 saves.

The tournament's home team remains undefeated through five games and now boasts a Worlds-best plus-21 goal differential.

Slovakia 5, Denmark 1

After Slovakia jumping out to an early lead, Adam Liska provided his team insurance by scoring on the rush less than a minute into the second period.

Denmark finally got on the board early in the third but was unable to overcome the early three-goal deficit.

Slovakia finished the game having outshot their opponents 44-14 as Oliver Okuliar recorded a team-high three points on a goal and two assists.

The win allowed Slovakia to leapfrog Czechia and tie Canada in points on top of the Group B standings.

The preliminary round continues Friday as Hungary takes on Germany and Slovenia faces Canada (10:20 a.m. ET) before Great Britain faces Finland and Italy plays Sweden (2:20 p.m. ET).
