According to Scott Agness of Fieldhouse Files, the decision to rule out Clark is part of a "strategic management plan" by the Fever for the 2026 season.

The matchup with Portland will represent Indiana's fourth game in eight days.

Clark has appeared in each of the Fever's first four contests this year, although she left the team's bench twice in a season-opening clash with the Dallas Wings to work with medical staff on her back.

She eventually returned to the game and played 31 minutes.

"That moment where my back tightened up, I think I almost got confidence from that because I came back in and I played eight more minutes, so I felt great," Clark said after the contest, per ESPN's Kendra Andrews. "It's something I can take confidence from. But it's going to take me a little bit to really get over the mental hurdle of trusting my body."

It's also worth noting that the two-time All-Star only appeared in 13 games during her 2025 campaign due to groin and quadriceps issues.

Given Clark's recent injury history and her importance within Indiana's offense, it's understandable that the team could take a cautious approach regarding her availability throughout the year.

The former Iowa standout has opened this season on a high note, averaging 24.3 points and 9.0 assists to go along with 5.0 rebounds per game. She's shooting 42.5 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from behind the arc.

The Fever own a plus-10.6 net rating with Clark on the floor this season compared to a minus-14.2 net rating with her off (via WNBA.com).

As Indiana looks to defeat Portland without its lead guard on Wednesday, Raven Johnson and Tyasha Harris could see expanded roles.

Tip-off between the Fever and Fire is at 7 p.m. ET.
