New A.J. Brown Trade Rumors as Insider Dishes on Potential Chiefs Interest amid Rashee Rice Injury

Doric SamMay 20, 2026

Amid the uncertainty surrounding wide receiver Rashee Rice's status, the Kansas City Chiefs reportedly could revisit a potential trade option.

On Wednesday's episode of The Breer Report, Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer examined the possibility of the Chiefs pursuing a trade for Philadelphia Eagles star wideout A.J. Brown. While he predicted that a deal ultimately wouldn't get done, he noted that Kansas City has to consider the option due to the situation surrounding Rice.

"And of course the smaller picture questions of what the Chiefs do at receiver now. Do they go back? Do they circle back and maybe look at the idea of trading for A.J. Brown? I don't think that happens," Breer said around the 2:00 mark. "They had that opportunity. They were on A.J. Brown's list. They said no to the Eagles in the first place. But I think if you're the Chiefs, you have to look at all these things going forward because Rashee Rice clearly looks like somebody that you have not been able to rely on."

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Rice is expected to be sidelined for at least two months after undergoing "a clean-up surgery on his right knee to remove loose debris that was causing inflammation." Rice will also miss OTAs and mandatory minicamp after being sentenced to serve 30 days in jail for testing positive for marijuana in violation of the terms of his probation.

The New England Patriots have long been viewed as the favorites to land Brown, as he has a prior relationship with head coach Mike Vrabel from their days together with the Tennessee Titans. Philadelphia is expected to wait until after June 1 to trade the three-time Pro Bowler so it can reduce its impending dead-money hit.

However, that gives time for the Chiefs and other teams around the league to swoop in and try to convince the Eagles to trade Brown to them instead of the Patriots. Adding Brown would instantly put Kansas City back in title contention, so the team would be wise to explore its chances of landing him.
