Mookie Betts Reacts to 'What's Wrong' with Shohei Ohtani Questions from Fans in New 'On Base' Video
Even though Shohei Ohtani has been pitching at an outstanding level this season, the four-time MVP has been questioned by fans over his offense through the early part of the season. On Bleacher Report's On Base, Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts explained why he takes issue with those who ask "what's wrong" with his teammate.
"If he doesn't get a hit or maybe has a couple bad games, it's like, 'Well what's wrong with Shohei?' Well, I mean, he did just go seven innings, two hits, he does have a 0.7 ERA," Betts said (17-minute mark). "You forget all the other ways that he really affects the game."
Ohtani has collected seven home runs, 24 RBI and is slashing .265/.392/.458 this season. His production at the plate hasn't been bad, but it's not exactly what fans have grown accustomed to.
He's more than made up for it on the mound, though, as he's recorded a 0.82 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP to go along with 50 strikeouts and just six runs allowed in seven starts.
If Ohtani can continue that kind of production, he could be on his way to his first Cy Young award.
