Pittsburgh Uses Big Innings to Crush Louisville
Thanks to three innings in which they scored four or more runs, the Pittsburgh Panthers cruised to a 16-8 win over the Louisville Cardinals on Tuesday.
Second baseman Trey Fenderson was the star of the night for Pitt, as he went 3-for-5 with two home runs, seven RBI and three runs scored in the victory.
That included a three-one shot as part of a five-run top of the first inning to give the Panthers a commanding lead out of the gate:
However, the Cardinals answered in the bottom of the second with five runs of their own to tie the game.
Pittsburgh took back a lead it would never relinquish in the fourth inning, though, scoring another six runs.
That included Fenderson's second homer of the night, and it was of the grand slam variety:
Pitt added to its lead with four more runs in the fifth, and that was all she wrote for Louisville, as Pitt rolled to an impressive, one-sided triumph.
Notre Dame Beats Clemson in Homer-Filled Game
Notre Dame's 5-4 victory over Clemson was much closer than the day's first two games and featured a combined six home runs.
Drew Berkland, Bino Watters and Jayce Lee went deep for the Fighting Irish, while Tyler Lichtenberger, Bryce Clavon and Jacob Jarrell all hit long balls for the Tigers. Jarrell's homer cut the deficit to one in the top of the ninth, but Notre Dame closed the door.
Lee went 3-for-3 for the victors with two doubles and the home run, while the pitching did a formidable job limiting the damage to the solo long balls. Jack Radel allowed just two runs and four hits while striking out eight in 6.1 innings of work.
Next up for the Fighting Irish is a date with Virginia Tech.
Stanford Makes it Two Blowouts in a Row on Tuesday
Jimmy Nati had three hits, a homer and three RBI, Charlie Bates left the yard as well and Stanford cruised to an 11-4 win over rivals California.
Six different Stanford pitchers combined to earn the win, highlighted by Aidan Keenan's five strikeouts in two innings.
Duke Wins by a Football Score
You don't see many 21-12 baseball games.
But Duke did just that on Tuesday, beating their in-state rival NC State in an offensive showcase.
Kaden Smith had an absurd game for the Blue Devils, hitting two homers and notching eight RBI, while Jake Lambdin had four hits and six RBI. NC State hit four homers as a team in a losing effort.
