Carlos Alcaraz to Miss Wimbledon After Withdrawing from Roland-Garros amid Injury Recovery

Doric SamMay 19, 2026

After withdrawing from the French Open last month due to a wrist injury, Carlos Alcaraz will have to miss another major.

Alcaraz announced on Tuesday that he will not play at Wimbledon as he continues his recovery.

"My recovery is going well and I feel much better, but unfortunately I'm still not ready to be able to play, and that's why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen's and Wimbledon," Alcaraz wrote. "They are two really special tournaments for me and I'll miss them a lot. We keep working to return as soon as possible!"

Alcaraz would've been going for his third career Wimbledon title after winning the famed tournament in 2023 and 2024. He also lost out on the chance at a third consecutive French Open title.

Per the Associated Press, Alcaraz injured his wrist in the first round of the Barcelona Open last month, and he withdrew from the tournament the very next day. He also withdrew from the Madrid Open and the Italian Open, the latter of which he also won in 2025.

Alcaraz opened 2026 with a victory over Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open final, making the 23-year-old the youngest man ever to complete the career Grand Slam by winning all four majors. He followed that up with a victory at the Qatar Open in Doha, but he lost to longtime rival Jannik Sinner in the final of the Monte Carlo Masters. The loss dropped him to No. 2 in the world behind Sinner.

Alcaraz's next chance at a major title this year will be the US Open, which begins in August. Fans will certainly be hoping that he will be recovered in time to return to action this summer.
