Claressa Shields Banned from MVP Events After Alycia Baumgardner Altercation at Rousey vs. Carano

Doric SamMay 19, 2026

Undisputed women's heavyweight champion Claressa Shields took things too far when she ran into longtime rival Alycia Baumgardner at Saturday's Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano fight card, and now she's paying for it.

Most Valuable Promotions announced that Shields has been banned from attending future events due to her physical altercation with Baumgardner.

"MVP does not condone, tolerate, or accept Claressa Shields' behavior in that setting and it reflects poorly on MVP and women's sports, which we have worked tirelessly to uplift," the statement read. "Effective immediately, Claressa Shields is banned from all MVP events until further notice. There is a time and a place for fighter tension and banter, but to physically attack a fellow athlete while there as a guest inside a private VIP area is unacceptable."

Baumgardner, who is the unified women's junior lightweight champion, signed with MVP in March 2025 and fought her last two fights with the promotion.

Video footage surfaced online over the weekend in which Shields and Baumgardner confronted each other in the backstage area of the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. They were being separated by security when Shields reached across and took a swing at her rival.

Shieldsย claimedย on social media that Baumgardner was verbally aggressive and had threatened her, which prompted her to take a swing.

Baumgardner released a lengthy statement saying that the "situation has been and will continue to be handled legally and professionally."

"The situation that occurred on Saturday was unprovoked and entirely consistent with the individual involved," Baumgardner stated, adding that she was "physically assaulted without provocation."

Shields and Baumgardner have traded barbs back and forth for years. However, there is a massive size difference between them that has always hindered the possibility of a future fight.

It appears that Saturday's confrontation only muddied the waters even further, so perhaps Shields and Baumgardner will figure out a way to settle their differences in a proper manner.
