Gina Carano Addresses Brutal Loss to Ronda Rousey, Reveals Advice from Jon Jones After Fight

Andrew PetersMay 18, 2026

Gina Carano's first fight in nearly 17 years didn't go well as she tapped out against Ronda Rousey in less than 20 seconds.

Carano addressed the loss on social media on Monday, and she revealed why she had to submit after just 17 seconds.

"My heart is heavy, I wanted to throw, battle, win, but I kicked when I should have moved and was down and done," she wrote. "If I hadn't tapped she would've broken my arm, as it had begun to crackle."

Carano also revealed the advice she got from Jon Jones after the disappointing loss.

"Jon said, 'You haven't fought in 17 years? Do you know how big your balls have to be to get back in there after that long? Did you set some sort of record or something? Respect!' That's exactly what I needed to hear from the best to ever to do it," she wrote.

Rousey was also out of practice, as she hadn't stepped in the ring since 2016. Carano showed her respect to the MMA legend for her return to action.

"I'm so glad the world got to experience this version of [Rousey]," she wrote. "I found a beautiful woman, wife, mother, daughter, sister and legend. I adore you lady."

Whether Carano will return to the ring remains to be seen, but she said in her statement that she "can't wait to see where I can push my body to go next."
