Ronda Rousey Explains Secrecy of Prize Money in New Video After Submission Win vs. Gina Carano

Although she did not provide a specific number, Ronda Rousey gave some insight into the compensation she received to face Gina Carano in an MMA bout on Saturday night.

Speaking to reporters after her 17-second submission victory (beginning at the 15:15 mark of the video), Rousey said, "I was compensated not just for my fighting services, you know? I also was promoting this event as well. I think it's literally on the contract that I'm not supposed to tell people, but I'm very happy and very grateful. Me and my husband are gonna go house shopping in Hawai'i after this."

The fight—which took place at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, and streamed live on Netflix under Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions banner—marked Rousey's first MMA bout since 2016.

During her heyday, Rousey was arguably the biggest star and biggest draw in MMA.

She made her UFC debut in 2013, and over the next three years, she fought eight times for the promotion and did big business every time.

Rousey dominated in her first six UFC fights, winning all of them by submission or knockout, but she she hit a wall in 2015 when she suffered a shocking, knockout loss to Holly Holm, which saw her drop the UFC women's bantamweight title.

After more than a year off, Rousey tried to make a successful comeback against Amanda Nunes at UFC 207, but Nunes beat her by technical knockout in just 48 seconds.

After that, Rousey stepped away from MMA and tried her hand at professional wrestling, enjoying two stints in WWE.

The 2008 Olympic judo bronze medalist was a two-time SmackDown women's champion, one-time Raw women's champion, one-time women's tag team champion and one-time Royal Rumble winner in WWE.

Also, at WrestleMania 35, she was part of the first women's match to ever serve as the main event of a WrestleMania.

Even having been out of MMA for a decade, Rousey's drawing power is undeniable, and Most Valuable Promotions took advantage of it by deploying her not only as a fighter, but also as a promoter of sorts.

The fight against Carano turned out to be a quick one without much drama, but for those who enjoyed the fights from earlier in Rousey's career, they may have gotten exactly what they were expecting.

Most Valuable Promotions benefited from Rousey's star power as well, and if Saturday's event was a successful one, it could open the door for more major MMA cards under the MVP umbrella in the future.
