The Steelers had $10.7 million in cap space before Schefter announced the move, per Over the Cap. Given Rodgers' reported contract, one can guess the Steelers will make some moves (perhaps restructuring of deals) to get under the cap for the 2026 season.

The 42-year-old Rodgers is a 10-time Pro Bowler, four-time All-Pro and four-time NFL MVP. The active leader in passing touchdowns (527) is entering his 22nd NFL season and second with the Steelers.

Last year, Rodgers completed 65.7 percent of his passes for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions (6.7 yards per attempt). The Steelers won 10 games and took the AFC North division crown.

Pittsburgh made some big moves this offseason, adding wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. from the Indianapolis Colts via trade. The Steelers also added former Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Jamel Dean on a three-year contract. Running back Rico Dowdle's now in the backfield alongside Jaylen Warren as well.

In the draft, the Steelers selected offensive tackle Max Iheanachor in the first round. The Arizona State product looks slated to start at right tackle. Alabama wide receiver Germie Bernard, the second-round pick, looks like the top slot wideout.

Pittsburgh opens the 2026 season on Sept. 13 at home vs. the Atlanta Falcons.
