Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano Video Highlights, Reaction from Submission Win in Historic MMA Fight

Alex BallentineMay 17, 2026

Ronda Rousey closed out a historic card with a first-round submission win over Gina Carano in the first-ever MMA card put on by Jake Paul's MVP promotional company.

And it didn't take long. Rousey earned the tap from Carano in under 15 seconds.

Rousey turned back the clock to lock in one more signature armbar. Needless to say, there was no shortage of reaction.

The win marks Rousey's first win in the cage since 2015 when she defeated Bethe Correia at UFC 190. She was the first female superstar in UFC history, blazing the trail for women to join the promotion.

Her rise to superstardom included a six fight win streak to start her UFC career that included five first-round finishes.

Her career downturn came just as quickly, though. She was stunned by Holly Holm in 2015, followed it up with a loss to Amanda Nunes and left MMA all together.

That prompt exit from the sport is what led her back to this bout with Carano. Ahead of the fight, Rousey explained why this high-profile Netflix bout is the perfect ending to her career.

"This is the peak, I can't go higher than this. This is the dream fight. This is the absolute pinnacle, I think, for me," Rousey said on The Ariel Helwani Show. "This is the perfect way to end it."

Carano is a fellow pioneer in the sport. She didn't quite reach the same heights as Rousey in terms of championship success, but she was involved in first women's MMA fight to be broadcast on live television in 2007.

She was also the first woman to headline a major MMA event on Showtime when she fought Cris Cyborg in August 2009.

This was her first appearance since losing that bout against Cyborg. Given how much money she was paid for this fight and the fact that she came out on the losing side, it wouldn't be surprising if this is the last we have seen her.

Official prize money for the bout hasn't been released, but Rousey stated ahead of that fight that she and Carano would be "smashing" the record for highest-paid female fight.

Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano reportedly made $5 million for their boxing bout with MVP. That would be a good starting point to project what Rousey made for this fight.

The disclosed purse for the bout included $2.2 million for Rousey and $1.05 million for Carano, per MMA Junkie.
