Rory McIlroy Not Against LIV Golfers' Return to PGA Tour But Questions If They 'Want to Come Back'

Zach BacharMay 8, 2026

Rory McIlroy isn't opposed to LIV Golf players coming back to the PGA Tour in the future.

"If it is a scenario where they have the option to come back and play on the traditional tours, I think [PGA Tour CEO] Brian Rolapp has said anything that makes this tour stronger, anything that makes the DP World Tour stronger, I think everyone should be open to that," McIlroy said Friday, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). "That's just good business practice."

He noted that "it's a question of if they do want to come back," though.

In April, it was revealed that Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund wasย pulling funding for LIV Golf after this current season.

Top LIV Golf stars such asย Jon Rahmย andย Bryson DeChambeauย could potentially be allowed to return to the PGA Tour after their LIV Golf season comes to a close.

Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka already came back to the PGA Tour on Jan. 12 after spending time with LIV Golf, revealing that there were "financial penalties" involved.

PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp previously brought up Koepka when discussing the possibility of LIV Golf players returning.

"Brooks came back on to the tour because he made a phone call and said, 'Look, I'm out of my contract, I'm ready to come back,' so we're thinking about it," Rolapp said during an April 20 appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. "We'll react when we have an opportunity to react, but right now, we're focused on making the PGA Tour better."

"But listen, I've said it publicly and I'll say it again: I'm interested in whatever makes the PGA Tour better," he added. "That's what my job is. That's what I'm interested in doing. That has no limit. That's how I'll focus on it."

The last scheduled LIV Golf event for the 2026 season is in Aug. 2026.
