Seahawks Reportedly Expected to Sell for NFL Record Price Despite 'Soft' Market After Super Bowl Win

Mike ChiariMay 8, 2026

Although the Seattle Seahawks reportedly aren't generating as much interest as anticipated, they are still expected to fetch a record price when the franchise eventually sells.

According to ESPN's Seth Wickersham, an anonymous team owner called the Seahawks' market "soft," and another NFL executive said, "There isn't as much action as there was with Denver and Washington," in reference to the two most recent sales of NFL franchises.

Sources told Wickersham there are "doubts" among NFL owners and execs that the Seahawks will sell for up to $10 billion or $11 billion despite some previous projections being that high, but there is an expectation they will sell for "slightly above $9 billion," which would still be an NFL record.

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen purchased the Seahawks in 1997, and since his death in 2018, the team has been owned by his family.

Allen's sister, Jody Allen, is the Seahawks' controlling owner, but it was stipulated in Paul Allen's trust that she would eventually sell the team and donate the proceeds to charity.

Sources told Wickersham that there is a "small" pool of potential buyers for the Seahawks right now, but one person believed to have interest is Steve Apostolopoulos, who was in the mix to purchase the Washington Commanders before they were sold to Josh Harris.

It was also reported this week by Sportico's Scott Soshnick and Eben Novy-Williams that former Boston Celtics controlling owner Wyc Grousbeck and Celtics investor Aditya Mittal are preparing a bid for the Seahawks, as is San Francisco 49ers investor Vinod Khosla.

The current record price for the sale of an NFL franchise was set in 2023 when Harris bought the Commanders for $6.05 billion. That bested the previous record set one year earlier when Rob Walton purchased the Denver Broncos for $4.65 billion.

While Seattle is in the middle of the pack in terms of NFL market sizes, the Seahawks are coming off a hugely successful 2025 season.

Seattle beat the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl LX, representing the second championship in franchise history.

With a quality head coach in Mike Macdonald, a quarterback whose career has been resurrected in Sam Darnold and a dominant defense, the Seahawks could be contenders for years to come, which may eventually help their market when push comes to shove.
