NFL, Netflix Reportedly Near Deal to Air 49ers vs. Rams in Australia, More Games on 2026 Schedule

The NFL is reportedly coming back to Netflix for the 2026 season.

Dan Shanoff and Andrew Marchand of The Athletic reported Thursday the streaming platform will broadcast the Sept. 10 NFC West showdown between the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams that is taking place in Australia.

What's more, Netflix will air two Christmas Day games.

Insider John Ourand reported there will "likely" also be a Thanksgiving Eve game on the platform:

According to Shanoff and Marchand, there will be a third Christmas Day game this season that will air on Fox in primetime.

This is the latest live-sports venture for Netflix, which also broadcasts MMA, boxing and, starting with the season-opening game of the 2026 season, Major League Baseball. The streaming platform aired the opener between the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants and will also be the home of the Home Run Derby on July 14.

The "Field of Dreams" game between the Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins will also air on Netflix. So will the women's World Cup in 2027 and 2031.

Netflix's first NFL game of the season will be part of an extensive international schedule for the league. Shanoff and Marchand noted there will be nine international games in all in 2026 with one in Paris, one in Rio, one in Mexico City, one in Madrid, one in Munich and three in London.

The Australia one figures to be an important tone-setter in the loaded NFC West.

After all, the Rams and 49ers each went 12-5 last season with Los Angeles advancing to the NFC Championship Game. Yet neither team won the division, as the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks went 14-3.

All three figure to be contenders again in 2026, meaning the head-to-head showdowns will carry additional weight in the division race and the battle for the conference's No. 1 seed.
