Kyler Murray's Vikings Jersey Number Revealed After Contract in NFL Free Agency

Kyler Murray is sticking with a familiar jersey number ahead of his first season with the Minnesota Vikings.

The Vikings announced Wednesday that Murray will continue to wear No. 1, the same number that he wore throughout the first seven seasons of his career as a member of the Arizona Cardinals.

The quarterback signed a one-year contract with Minnesota as a free agent on March 12.

Wide receiver Jalen Nailor previously wore No. 1 while suiting up for the Vikings during the 2025 season, but the number became available again once he joined the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency.

As for Murray, he also wore No. 1 during his college career with Texas A&M and Oklahoma.

Now, the 28-year-old is expected to compete with J.J. McCarthy for Minnesota's starting quarterback job next season.

McCarthy failed to meet expectations in 2025, completing just 57.6 percent of his throws for 1,632 yards and 11 touchdowns compared to 12 interceptions in 10 contests.

Meanwhile, Murray appeared in five games with the Cardinals last year before suffering a foot injury that ended his season in Week 5. He threw for 962 yards and six touchdowns while getting picked off three times before the foot issue.

If Murray earns the Vikings' starting quarterback role in training camp, he'll attempt to lead them back to the playoffs after they narrowly missed the postseason with a 9-8 finish in 2025.
