C.J. Stroud's New Diet Revealed in Video Amid Texans QB's Weight Loss During 2026 NFL Offseason

Joseph ZuckerMay 6, 2026

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud made his diet a focus of his preparations for what figures to be a pivotal 2026 NFL season.

ESPN's DJ Bien-Aime reported Stroud cut out "sugary foods" and lowered his carbohydrate intake. Instead, he has been consuming water and "lean food."

The 2023 first-round pick is still chasing the heights he reached as a rookie. He averaged a league-high 273.9 passing yards per game and had 23 touchdowns to five interceptions in 15 starts that year.

Since then, his game has regressed.

Stroud finished 2025 with 3,041 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 14 appearances. His four picks were one of the biggest factors behind Houston's divisional round loss to the New England Patriots.

The Texans have been put into a tough spot.

Stroud has a $25.9 million club option for 2027 before he's eligible for free agency. Right now, you wouldn't feel totally comfortable giving him a long-term extension, yet there are no guarantees of finding something better if you let him walk.

The 24-year-old also seems to understand the situation, and he knows what having a big season will mean for his earning power.

Across any sport, an athlete being in the best shape of their life is one of the most frequent offseason clichés. In Stroud's case, it might actually be true.
