Angel Reese Dream-Sky Trade Voted Among Most Surprising Offseason Moves by WNBA GMs in 2026 Survey
The Atlanta Dream received high marks in the newest WNBA general manager survey for an offseason headlined by their trade for Angel Reese.
In the survey, Reese's exit from the Chicago Sky tied for the second-highest vote total when GMs were asked to pick the most surprising move. Satou Sabally signing with the New York Liberty topped the list.
Reese also tied with the Golden State Valkyries' Gabby Williams for the acquisition who will make the biggest impact on their new team. The Dallas Wings, meanwhile, were the only team judged to have done better than the Dream in terms of their offseason business.
For the most part, Atlanta is running it back from 2025. Aside from the Reese trade, the team's biggest moves were re-signing Rhyne Howard, Allisha Gray, Naz Hillmon and Jordin Canada. Coach Karl Smesko and general manager Dan Padover clearly believe they found a winning formula last year.
Reese could be the star who helps the Dream improve upon a first-round playoff loss, and her presence might have benefits going far beyond that.
Atlanta simply hasn't been a draw for marquee talent. Perhaps Reese can change the general perception of the organization if she thrives both on and off the court with the Dream.
The worst-case scenario is that the two-time All-Star doesn't pan out and the team is out two draft first-round picks that should fall in the mid-to-late stages. That's a worthwhile gamble to make given the upside Reese possesses.
