Dabo Swinney Reacts to Cade Klubnik on Jets, 'Better Have Some Thick Skin' After NFL Draft

Doric SamMay 4, 2026

After being selected by the New York Jets in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL draft, quarterback Cade Klubnik received some advice from his former head coach.

While speaking to ESPN's Adam Rittenberg about Klubnik landing with the Jets, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said he expects the 22-year-old to be able to handle the pressure that comes from playing in New York.

"He's a two-time ACC championship MVP with a couple titles, but he's also had some moments that were not so good," Swinney told Rittenberg. "All those things make you better if you're made of the right stuff, and he is made of the right stuff, and it has made him better. Especially going to a place like New York, you better have some thick skin. … I think Cade has a chance to be an outstanding pro."

The Jets surprisingly traded up in the fourth round to select Klubnik, who was projected to be a late-round pick. B/R's Brent Sobleski graded the selection a B.

Klubnik will spend his rookie season developing behind veteran quarterback Geno Smith, who will be New York's starter for the 2026 campaign.

The Jets are expected to be eyeing a quarterback in the 2027 draft when they'll have three first-round picks, but Klubnik will have the chance to prove that he can be a part of the team's future.
