Ranger Suarez Injured, Latest Updates on Red Sox Pitcher's Status After Exiting vs. Astros

Andrew PetersMay 3, 2026

Amid a disastrous start to the 2026 season, the Boston Red Sox have been dealt more injury woes.

Per The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey, Ranger Suarez exited Sunday's game against the Houston Astros in the fourth inning with right hamstring tightness.

Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy told reporters after the game that there's no plan for Suarez to receive an MRI.

Suarez was off to a good start before he was replaced by Tyler Samaniego in the fifth. He had recorded three strikeouts while allowing just three hits, a walk and no runs, helping Boston stay in the game despite its offensive struggles.

Coming into Sunday's contest, Suarez had made six starts, recording a 3.09 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 29 strikeouts across 35 innings. He also had a 2-2 record.

While the extent of Suarez's injury is not yet known, it could add another ailment to a Red Sox rotation that has been walloped by injuries early on.

Star ace Garrett Crochet was placed on the 15-day injured list last week because of inflammation in his left shoulder, while Sonny Gray has been on the injured list since April 21 with a hamstring strain. Luckily for Boston, Gray is able to return to action this week, which would be a relief, especially if Suarez is looking at time on the injured list.

The Red Sox fired manager Alex Cora and a handful of other coaches last week amid a 10-17 start to the season. Boston has gone 3-3 in the six games since Cora's firing and is currently sitting in last place in the AL East at 13-20.
