The 2026 Kentucky Derby featured a thrilling finish, as Golden Tempo surged in front to secure a late comeback win.
Golden Tempo wasn't considered a favorite to win entering the event, having 30-1 morning-line odds (via KentuckyDerby.com).

Golden Tempo won with a time of 2:02.31, while Derby favorite Renegade finished at the No. 2 spot. Ocelli's No. 3 finish was also impressive considering the three-year-old colt owned 50-1 morning-line odds.
Cherie DeVaux, Golden Tempo's trainer, became the first female trainer to have their horse win the Kentucky Derby.
As for Golden Tempo jockey Jose Ortiz, he won the Derby for the first time in his 11th attempt.
"This is a dream come true," Ortiz said, per Jason Frakes of the Louisville Courier Journal. "This is the biggest race in the world. I get to ride it almost every year, but to win is special."
With the 152nd Kentucky Derby now in the books, Golden Tempo could be back in action for the second leg of the Triple Crown when the Preakness takes place on May 16.
