New NFL Rumors on David Njoku's Potential Landing Spot in Free Agency After 2026 Draft

Paul KasabianMay 2, 2026

Free agent tight end David Njoku is visiting the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Njoku has played all nine of his NFL seasons with the Cleveland Browns, who selected the ex-Miami Hurricane with the 29th overall pick in the 2017 draft. The 2023 season was his best effort. He amassed 81 catches for 882 yards and six touchdowns en route to Pro Bowl honors.

Njoku has been slowed by knee injuries over the past two seasons. He sat six games in 2024 and five more in 2025. He still caught 64 passes in 2024 (for 505 yards and five touchdowns) and added 33 catches for 293 yards and four scores in 2025.

The Browns have a budding star in tight end now in Harold Fannin Jr., who had 72 catches for 731 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie. With Njoku's contract running out, it made sense for the player and team to part ways.

Njoku issued a fond farewell to Cleveland last February via Instagram.

"Cleveland, first off I love you. These 9 years have been a beautiful journey. I'm am so grateful for all the memories we shared together. Thank you to The Haslams, Andrew Berry and the whole browns organization for everything!! All my teammates I shared the battle with I'm so grateful for you guys. The time for me to find a new home has come and all I can think of is just the gratefulness in my heart. The city of Cleveland will forever be home❤️ #ChiefOut."

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Njoku visited the Baltimore Ravens last March. One can guess nothing will come to fruition from that visit, as the Ravens have Mark Andrews, Durham Smythe and now a pair of rookies in fourth-rounder Matt Hibner of SMU and fifth-rounder Josh Cuevas of Alabama.

However, the Chargers now appear to be a possibility. L.A. already has Oronde Gadsden II and free agent (and ex-Raven) Charlie Kolar, but it seems teams are loading up heavy on tight ends these days, so perhaps Njoku can find a home with the Bolts.
