Kentucky Derby 2026 Odds, Post Positions Info and Vegas Lines for All Horses

Joe TanseyMay 2, 2026

One horse will etch its name in horse racing history as the Kentucky Derby winner on Saturday.

Renegade, Commandment and Further Ado come into Saturday as the three favorites in the 20-horse field.

There are plenty of strong candidates in the second tier of contenders, and if recent history plays out again at Churchill Downs, an unexpected horse will be in the mix as well.

Kentucky Derby Lineup

Renegade is still the pre-race favorite in the final few hours prior to the first leg of the Triple Crown.

The numbers might change a bit before the 6:57 p.m. ET post time, but the list of top contenders won't be altered.

Renegade, Commandment and Further Ado are the three primary horses to watch.

Commandment owns the best form of the three with four consecutive wins. The 6-1 odds are still a great price for a horse with that great of a record.

Renegade and Commandment could be locked in a head-to-head battle early on in the race. They both start on the inside six posts. The three horses in between them are all long shots.

Further Ado will likely have the cleanest path to the front. He starts out of Post No. 18 with a bunch of late entrants and long shots around him.

In fact, every horse starting from Post No. 14 and beyond, with the exception of Further Ado, owns odds of 15-1 or higher.

Most of the second-tier contenders, including So Happy and Chief Wallabee, start in the middle posts.

The posts closer to the rail have been the successful ones in recent years. Nine of the 15 top-three finishes in the last five years came from Posts 1-10.

Two winners in that span started from the outside posts, so it's not out of the question for Further Ado to win, but the recent trend isn't in its favor.

Four of the last five Derby winners had 12-1 odds or higher. Sovereignty ended that streak in 2025 as a 5-1 winner.

A handful of potential dark-horse winners were scratched from the race program, but among those remaining, Potente and Emerging Market are the most intriguing horses.

Potente is the better of the two Bob Baffert horses in the field. Emerging Market will be popular because its trainer, Chad Brown, won the Kentucky Oaks on Friday.
