Kentucky Derby Weather Forecast for Historic 2026 Race at Churchill Downs

Hours away from post time for the 2026 Kentucky Derby, the weather at Churchill Downs is expected to be close to perfect for horse racing's biggest day.

Per Weather.com, the forecast at 7 p.m. ET is expected to be partly cloudy with a high temperature of 57 degrees.

Post time for the race is scheduled for 6:57 p.m. ET.

Tiffany Savona of The Weather Channel notes it will be chilly for the race, but the clear weather suggests a fast track. This is a welcome change from last year when rain throughout he day led to a muddy track.

If the track plays fast on Saturday, it could provide a boost to some of the speed runners in the field.

Further Ado, in particular, seems likely to benefit from a clean forecast and fast track. He is coming off an 11-length win at the Blue Grass Stakes on April 4 in which he recorded a 106 Beyer Speed Figure.

Renegade, who enters as the morning-line favorite, is a powerful runner who has shown a knack for closing strong and produced a career-high 98 Beyer Speed Figure at the Arkansas Derby.

Churchill Downs will provide the biggest test to date for all 20 horses in the field, but they seem likely to have a clean track as they look to make history in the 152nd running of the Kentucky Derby.
