New Aaron Rodgers Rumors on Latest Communication with Steelers amid Contract Decision

Zach BacharMay 1, 2026

The Pittsburgh Steelers have talked with Aaron Rodgers regarding a potential reunion following the 2026 NFL draft, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

"For Aaron, he's continuing to mull his options," Pelissero reported during a Friday appearance on the Rich Eisen Show (1:54 mark). "My understanding is he's talked with the Steelers regularly. He has talked to them since the draft. Everything they did in the draft may not have been designed for Aaron Rodgers. But certainly if you were saying, 'What might Aaron Rodgers want?' A tackle, a guard who's a barroom brawler and a big slot receiver. Those are three things that Aaron Rodgers likes."

"If I'm leaning at this point, I am still leaning towards Aaron Rodgers is on board and he's on the field," he added. "Not just in minicamp, but in OTAs at some point."

After starting in 16 games with Pittsburgh last year, Rodgers was noncommittal regarding his future heading into the offseason.

On April 21, Steelers owner Art Rooney II said the team expected a decision from the 42-year-old "soon."

Pittsburgh made several offensive additions in the 2026 draft that could become key pieces around Rodgers if he decides to come back, selecting USC tackle Max Iheanachor with the No. 21 overall pick before choosing Alabama wide receiver Germie Bernard at No. 47.

The Steelers also drafted Iowa offensive lineman Gennings Dunker in the third round.

While the exact date that Rodgers will make his decision for the 2026 season is still unknown, Pittsburgh's OTAs will begin on May 18.
