Luis Robert Jr. Injury Update, Return Timeline After Mets Place Star on IL with Herniated Disc`

Adam WellsApr 30, 2026

The New York Mets remain unable to catch a break, with Luis Robert Jr. joining Francisco Lindor on the injured list.

Prior to Thursday's game against the Washington Nationals, the Mets announced Robert has been placed on the 10-day IL with a lumbar spine disc herniation.

The move was made retroactive to April 27, so Robert could be activated as soon as May 6.

After sitting out three straight games from April 26-28 due to tightness in his lower back, the Mets announced prior to Wednesday's game that Robert would undergo an MRI.

"We've got to wait and see what the MRI says and what's the plan of attack," Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said on Wednesday.

This is yet another blow to a Mets team that has seen seemingly everything go wrong to this point. Juan Soto returned to the lineup on April 22 after missing 15 games due to a calf strain.

In Soto's first game back against the Minnesota Twins, Lindor injured his hamstring while running the bases. The team didn't have an official timeline for his return to the lineup when he was placed on the IL on April 24, only noting they hope to have more clarity when he's reevaluated in three weeks.

Robert, who was acquired in an offseason trade with the Chicago White Sox, has slowed down after a hot start to the season. He is hitting .224/.327/.329 in 24 games overall, but he had just five hits in 38 at-bats over the last 10 games he played prior to the injury.

The Mets now have two players on the IL due to lumbar spine issues. Kodai Senga was placed on the 15-day IL on Tuesday after being diagnosed with inflammation in his lumbar spine.

This season is close to spiraling completely out of control for the Mets. They enter play on Thursday with an MLB-worst 10-20 record.
