New Jermod McCoy Rumors Reveal How Many Teams Removed Raiders Pick from Draft Big Boards amid Injury

Adam WellsApr 30, 2026

The concerns over Jermod McCoy's knee reportedly led to multiple teams not even considering taking him in the 2026 NFL draft.

Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, five teams confirmed they removed McCoy from their draft board entirely.

Fowler said he asked a total of eight teams about McCoy's status, with three saying they still had him on their board.

McCoy had possibly the biggest fall of any player in this year's draft relative to where they were projected to land. He was selected by the Las Vegas Raiders with the first pick of the fourth round (No. 101 overall).

B/R's NFL scouting department had McCoy ranked as the No. 11 overall prospect on its final big board. He was projected to be selected 18th overall by the Minnesota Vikings in the final mock released on April 22.

McCoy missed the entire 2025 season at Tennessee due to a torn ACL, but it was reportedly a different issue with his knee that presented issues for NFL teams.

Per Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson, McCoy's knee already has a bone plug, described as "basically a piece of bone and cartilage," that was used to fix a degenerative cartilage issue and doctors are concerned it will need to be replaced again at some point.

A second surgery of that type would put McCoy out for at least a full season and could "effectively end his career" given the complex nature of the procedure.

The problem for NFL teams is it's impossible to predict if/when McCoy would need surgery again.

Given how highly regarded McCoy was as a prospect before this issue was widely known, the Raiders may have gotten the steal of the draft if he does remain healthy.

McCoy, who doesn't turn 21 until Aug. 16, made the All-American second team in 2024. He recorded nine passes defensed and four interceptions in 13 games to help Tennessee make the College Football Playoff.
