Sonny Styles Signs $37.2M Commanders Rookie Contract, Full Details Revealed
The Washington Commanders have officially secured their new defensive leader for the next few years.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Styles put pen to paper on his fully-guaranteed, four-year, $37.2 million deal with the Commanders.
Despite playing linebacker for just two years at Ohio State after initially being recruited as a safety, Styles is projected to be a future star in the NFL because of his impressive motor and leadership. He skyrocketed up the draft board after his eye-popping performance at the NFL scouting combine that had scouts raving about his athleticism.
In 2025, Styles finished the year with 83 total tackles, three passes defended, a sack, a forced fumble and an interception on his way to being named a first-team All-American.
When he was selected by the Commanders, Styles knew it was a perfect fit, as he predicted to B/R earlier on draft day that he would land in Washington (1:30 mark).
Styles is joining a Commanders defense that ranked last in the NFL with 384.0 yards allowed per game in 2025. He's expected to eventually take over as the "green dot" linebacker who relays the play calls from the sidelines to the rest of the team.
If Styles can be the productive leader the Commanders are expecting, the team will have a strong chance to return to playoff contention in 2026.
