Monday Highlights
Golden Knights 5, Mammoth 4 (F/OT)
After losing back-to-back games and trailing midway through the third period in Game 4, Vegas was able to steal a win over Utah thanks to Shea Theodore's goal in the final minute of overtime on Monday night.
The Golden Knights looked like they were going to be in complete control early. They scored two goals in the first period and led 3-0 late in the second period.
Things turned quickly when when Utah got goals from Nick Schmaltz and Ian Cole in the span of 29 seconds to cut the deficit to 3-2. Michael Carcone tied the game by getting the puck past Carter Hart less than two minutes into the third period.
Utah took the lead on Clayton Keller's goal with 14:50 remaining in regulation. The Golden Knights evened things up when Brett Howden scored his first goal of the series.
Howden, Jack Eichel and Mikhail Sergachev each had three points in the game. Howden, who scored two goals, had just 22 points in the regular season and didn't have a point in the first three games of the series entering Monday night.
Hart rebounded from a shaky turn in the middle of the game to stop the final 14 shots he faced against Utah.
The series returns to Vegas for the pivotal Game 5 on Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET.
Penguins 3, Flyers 2
The Penguins' season was on the line Monday, and they played accordingly out of the gates on the way to a 3-2 victory.
Pittsburgh jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead behind a first-period goal from Elmer Soderblom and a second-period goal from Connor Dewar. However, Dewar's goal was just the start of the offensive explosion in the second period with Alex Bump and Travis Sanheim finding the back of the net for Philadelphia to tie things up before Kris Letang put the home team back on top.
That gave the Penguins a 3-2 lead going into the final period and put all the pressure on the defense and goaltender Arturs Silovs.
Silovs delivered.
Neither team scored a goal in the final period, and the Pittsburgh goaltender played the role of hero by turning away every look for Philadelphia. He ended up saving 18 of the 20 shots he faced, which was enough to preserve the team's season.
While the Penguins are still one loss away from being eliminated, there is no shortage of pressure on the Flyers to win Game 6 at home now so they can avoid returning to Pittsburgh for Game 7.
