Watch Cowboys' Caleb Downs, Brian Schottenheimer Have Putting Contest on Video After NFL Draft
Caleb Downs and Brian Schottenheimer are going to need a rubber match.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz shared video of the Dallas Cowboys head coach and first-round draft pick competing in a putting competition after the NFC East team selected the safety. Schottenheimer earned bragging rights in the latest contest, although Schultz noted Downs won the matchup during his pre-draft visit.
Fortunately for Dallas, it won't be counting on Downs to knock down putts during his rookie season.
Instead, he will look to live up to expectations as arguably the best player in the 2026 NFL draft. B/R's NFL Scouting Department ranked him at No. 1 overall in its final big board of prospects before the draft and also gave the Cowboys an "A++" grade after they traded up to No. 11 to take the Ohio State star.
"The Dallas Cowboys got the steal of the draft," the grade breakdown read. "It doesn't matter that they flipped two fifth-round picks to the Miami Dolphins to move up one spot, because Caleb Downs was easily the best player in this year's class regardless of position."
The 2025 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year could be a key part of the Dallas defense for years to come with a breakdown like that, which means he will have plenty of chances to defeat his head coach in putting contests.
