Kentucky Derby 2026 Lineup, Post Positions for All Entries of 152nd Race
The 152nd running of the Kentucky Derby will take place on Saturday at historic Churchill Downs in Louisville. With the post draw taking place this past weekend, we now have a good idea of how the field will look.
As is always the case for the first Triple Crown race of the year, the field is filled with remarkable horses, legendary jockeys, and Hall of Fame-caliber trainers. Bob Baffert, Todd Pletcher, Brad Cox, and Bill Mott are just some of the standout trainers who are sending horses into the competition.
Here's a look at the full field as race week begins.

Preview
2 of 2
The field for the 2026 Kentucky Derby is quite strong, with the Todd Pletcher-trained Renegade coming in as the early favorite. Renegade is coming off of wins at the Sam F. Davis Stakes and the Arkansas Derby.
Of course, being the favorite hasn't meant much in recent years.
Justify was the last morning-line favorite to win the Derby, and that happened in 2018. Three of the last four winners had odds of 10-1 or longer.
Renegade also drew an unfavorable post position and will be forced to break from the far inside. Irad Ortiz Jr. is a very experienced rider, but avoiding traffic around the first turn will be a challenge.
The Brad Cox-trained Commandment is another favorite. Fresh off a win at the Curlin Florida Derby, Commandment will be guided by Luis Saez, who has twice won the Belmont Stakes. While Commandment also drew an inside position, Cox doesn't appear concerned.
"I do like the 6 with Commandment," Cox said, per the Associated Press. "Hopefully he can break and go forward."
Cox has another contender in Further Ado, who is coming off a win at the Blue Grass Stakes and drew outside position at gate No. 18.
Chief Wallabee, trained by Bill Mott, and The Puma, trained by Gustavo Delgado, are two other favorites worth tracking ahead of race day. Longer shots like So Happy and Emerging Market should also be in the mix. Bob Baffert has a pair of long shots in the race, Litmus Test and Potente.
Given the quality of the field, one of the favorites is likely to win if it's a clean race. Weather, at least, shouldn't be a considerable factor. According to The Weather Channel (h/t Alexis Cubit of the Louisville Courier Journal), we should see a mix of sunshine and clouds on race day. Of course, rain could still enter the equation in the coming days and have an impact on the outcome.
Sovereignty beat out favorite Journalism on a sloppy track in last year's race.
