Kentucky Derby 2026 Contenders, Lineup and Pedigree for All Entries in the Field
Four horses come into the 2026 Kentucky Derby with odds lower than 10-1.
It's more likely than not that one of Renegade, Commandment, Further Ado and Chief Wallabee come away with the first leg of the Triple Crown.
All four horses have been at, or near, the front of each race they've competed in in the build-up to the Derby.
A long-shot selection should not be ruled out because of recent history at the Derby, but the top of the Derby field is quite strong.

It's hard to argue against one of the top four horses winning at Churchill Downs on Saturday.
Renegade, the current pre-race favorite, is coming off back-to-back wins at the Sam F. Davis Stakes and Arkansas Derby. Renegade is attempting to become the first Arkansas Derby winner to take the Kentucky Derby since American Pharoah in 2015.
Commandment owns the best winning pedigree in the field with four consecutive victories.
Commandment picked up the most points in the Road to the Kentucky Derby, a run that included wins at the Florida Derby and Fountain of Youth Stakes.
The horse with 6-1 odds is looking to follow a similar path as 2025 Derby winner Sovereignty, who won the Fountain of Youth Stakes as part of his preparation last spring.
Further Ado captured wins in three of his last four races, including his most-recent start at the Blue Grass Stakes.
Chief Wallabee has the longest odds among the four favorites at 8-1. He finished second and third behind Commandment in his last two starts. The victories aren't there for Chief Wallabee, but he carries experience competing against a top horse in the field.
All four favorites are being prepped by Derby-winning trainers. Commandment and Further Ado are both trained by 2021 Derby winner Brad Cox. Renegade trainer Todd Pletcher and Chief Wallabee trainer Bill Mott each have two Derby triumphs.
Further Ado carries the advantage in jockey pedigree with John Velazquez, a three-time Derby champion.
The best long-shots in the field may be the ones trained by six-time Derby winner Bob Baffert. He brings Potente and Litmus Test to the first leg of the Triple Crown.
Jockey Mike Smith, who has a pair of Derby triumphs, is aboard 15-1 horse So Happy, who might be in the mix as well because of his rider.
