New WWE Rumors on Brock Lesnar Backstage Plans After Shocking Retirement Angle at WrestleMania

Doric SamApr 26, 2026

Despite surprising the WWE universe by appearing to retire at WrestleMania 42, Brock Lesnar reportedly may not be done after all.

During an episode of WrestleVotes Radio (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), it was reported that WWE sources still expect Lesnar to wrestle one more time before officially ending his career, possibly at SummerSlam in Minneapolis in August.

"There is a strong belief within WWE that Brock Lesnar was genuinely saying goodbye when he left his boots and gloves in the ring this past Sunday at WrestleMania, with those we spoke to believing Lesnar is ready to call it a career. However, many also feel that before it's all said and done, he will have one final match at this year's SummerSlam," the report stated. "Lesnar, who attended the University of Minnesota and has been billed from Minneapolis, Minnesota, throughout his entire WWE career, has only wrestled two televised matches in the state, with the last taking place in January of 2004. One contact told us the company is more than hopeful he will be on the card come August 1st and 2nd at U.S. Bank Stadium downtown Minneapolis."

Lesnar signified the end of his storied WWE career when he left his gloves and boots in the ring following his loss to Oba Femi last Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. He shared an emotional moment with his longtime advocate, Paul Heyman, and appeared to say goodbye to the fans.

However, Carrier noted that it was reported during Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE is "obviously" attempting to turn Lesnar into a babyface for fans to root for before he calls it a career, further fueling the speculation that he could return for one more match.

If Lesnar has one more match in him, fans will certainly be hoping to see him face Gunther, who defeated the legendary John Cena, AJ Styles and Goldberg in their respective retirement matches. Adding Lesnar to the list would certainly solidify Gunther as one of the top Superstars of his generation.
