Former Red Sox Player Compares Alex Cora Firing to Graphic Bathroom Mishap in Text to MLB Insider
One former Boston Red Sox player had quite the reaction to the team's decision to fire manager Alex Cora.
"Woke up to a text from a former Red Sox player who summed up Saturday's moves: 'It's like s--tting your pants and changing your shirt,'" Rob Bradford of Audacy Sports wrote Sunday.
ESPN's Jorge Castillo reported the Red Sox fired Cora as well as bench coach Ramón Vázquez, hitting coach Peter Fatse, third-base coach Kyle Hudson, assistant hitting coach Dillon Lawson and hitting strategy coach Joe Cronin.

What's more, game planning and run prevention coach Jason Varitek was reassigned to a new role.
Chad Tracy, who was the manager of the organization's Triple-A affiliate, will take over as the interim manager.
The timing of the move is notable, as it came following a 17-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday and with plenty of time remaining in the 162-game regular season. Yet ESPN's Jeff Passan reported the team feels "the season can still be salvaged at this point."
He also said there was a "disconnect" between Cora and chief baseball officer Craig Breslow that contributed to the move:
Even with Saturday's win, the Red Sox still sit in last place in the American League East at 10-17. They are 22nd in the league in runs scored, 29th in home runs and 21st in pitching ERA without a lot of bright spots.
They also sit eight games behind the rival New York Yankees in the division.
Cora made quite the first impression when he led the Red Sox to the World Series title in his first year as the team's manager in 2018. However, they did not make the playoffs in his second year before he resigned because of his previous involvement in the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal in 2017.
Major League Baseball also suspended him for the 2020 season, although that didn't stop the Red Sox from rehiring him ahead of the 2021 campaign.
Boston made the American League Championship Series in 2021 but failed to reach the playoffs in any of the following three years before losing in the AL Wild Card Round in 2025.
Cora went 620-541 in his role as manager for the team.
