Uar Bernard to Eagles, Everything to Know About DL Prospect Compared to Victor Wembanyama

Zach BacharApr 25, 2026

The Philadelphia Eagles selected defensive line prospect Uar Bernard in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL draft on Saturday.

Bernard, who is listed at just over 6'4" and 306 pounds, is from Nigeria.

The Eagles selected him from the NFL's International Pathway Program, per Zach Berman of The Athletic.

Bernard was compared to San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama by former quarterbacks coach George Whitfield in the lead-up to the draft.

"It's like watching (Victor Wembanyama)," Whitfield told Bruce Feldman of The Athletic. "The numbers don't even do him justice. He's 6-5, 310, and he's got 6 percent body fat on him. NBA players don't have 6 percent body fat on them."

Eagles tackle Jordan Mailata, who also came through the International Pathway Program, was excited about the selection.

Mailata, who is from Australia, was a seventh-round pick by the Eagles in 2018 before blossoming into their starting left tackle.

Philadelphia will be hoping for a similar career trajectory from Bernard.

He began the International Pathway training program Jan. 18 and initially planned to go into real estate before a coach told him that he should try football, according to Feldman.

Bernard showcased his athleticism at the HBCU combine, posting a 4.63-second 40-yard dash.

While it may be difficult for him to carve out a consistent role on an Eagles squad looking to clinch a sixth consecutive playoff appearance, he'll now have an opportunity to showcase his talent in training camp.

Working in Bernard's favor is the fact that the Eagles could be able to keep him on the roster through the NFL's IPP exemption, Berman noted.
