Taylen Green Praised by Andrew Berry, Browns GM Explains Pick Year After Drafting Shedeur, Gabriel
Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry was excited about the team's selection of Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL draft.
"With Taylen specifically, very mature young man," Berry told reporters Saturday (1:30 mark). "Really strong makeup and he has rare physical gifts. He has size, he has elite speed, he has a big arm. He's gonna need some polish with his game, but he has the work ethic and he has the acumen to do so. So, we're looking forward to adding him to the roster and adding him to the mix in terms of competition."
The Browns' starting quarterback in 2026 is still uncertain, as Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson are reportedly expected to battle for the top spot on the depth chart. Dillon Gabriel also remains on Cleveland's roster.
Berry explained why he chose Green with the No. 182 overall pick after selecting Sanders and Gabriel in the 2025 draft.
"We do believe in keeping three on the active roster and ideally a fourth on the practice squad," Berry said (5:10 mark). "But, it's an important position. There is attrition throughout the year. The other element is it's never a problem to have too many good players."
Green appeared in all 12 games with the Razorbacks last season, completing 60.7 percent of his throws for 2,714 yards and 19 touchdowns compared to 11 interceptions.
He also made plays with his legs, rushing for 777 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging 5.6 yards per carry.
It seems as though Green will have an opportunity to compete for the Browns' starting quarterback role as they attempt to build upon their 5-12 finish in 2025.
