Dillon Gabriel Trade Rumors Addressed By Browns After Taylen Green 2026 NFL Draft Pick

Mike ChiariApr 25, 2026

The Cleveland Browns used the 182nd overall pick in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL draft on Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green on Saturday, but that reportedly wasn't a precursor to a trade.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Browns have said they have no plans to trade quarterback Dillon Gabriel despite the selection of Green.

Cleveland took Gabriel with the No. 94 overall pick in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft and followed that up by taking quarterback Shedeur Sanders two rounds later at No. 144 overall.

Also, after missing all of last season with a torn Achilles, veteran quarterback Deshaun Watson is returning in 2026, and he may prove to be Cleveland's starter.

"The current plan is that we'd roll with those four," general manager Andrew Berry told reporters on Saturday. "I can't predict if something else comes up."

Gabriel began last season as the No. 2 quarterback on the Browns' depth chart, but he moved into the starting role in October, leading to the trade of veteran signal-caller Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals.

The 25-year-old Gabriel went on to appear in 10 games and make six starts as a rookie, going just 1-5. He completed 59.5 percent of his passes for 937 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions.

Sanders became the Browns' new starter after Gabriel suffered a concussion in Week 11, and it was a role Sanders held for the remainder of the season.

With Sanders seemingly surpassing Gabriel in the pecking order, there was some thought that Gabriel could be a trade candidate even before the Browns drafted Green, but that apparently isn't the case.

Cleveland has a new head coach in former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, so it is possible he wants to get a look at all of the team's quarterbacks in training camp and the preseason before deciding who to keep on the roster.

Gabriel or one of the other quarterbacks could become expendable as the 2026 regular season gets closer, but for now, it seems they will all have the opportunity to earn their spot on the team.
